Begin Banned Books Week with a presentation on Banned Books and Kiss-Ins with The History Project! From early Puritan laws regulating clothing to 20th-century attempts to censor films, plays, and books, attacks on LGBTQ+ expression aren’t new. Although the cultural context has changed, the underlying ethos remains: ideas, stories, and voices that challenge the status quo are often attacked. Join us for a presentation and conversation about the history of censorship of LGBTQ+ history, stories, and culture in Massachusetts, followed by a Q&A.
The History Project is a Boston-based independent non-profit organization founded in 1980 that holds LGBTQ+ historical records and ephemera, supports LGBTQ+ history research, and shares LGBTQ+ history through public exhibits and events.
