Handling Big Feelings: Being Our Own Best Friend

This engaging program for children ages 3-8 and a grownup will focus on helping children understand their big feelings and learn new skills for handling them. Particular emphasis will be on the skill of self-compassion, being our own best friend. Life is filled with ups and downs. Giving children some tools to handle the inevitable hard moments more easily can make such a difference in their lives. In addition to practicing mindfulness, Wendy will share her newest book, It’s OK: Being Kind to Yourself When Things Feel Hard. The program will end with a craft for children to take home, supporting their ongoing use of self-compassion.

Wendy O’Leary, M.Ed., is an educator and author with expertise in emotional resilience, mindfulness, and self-compassion for both children and adults. She has extensive experience training parents, teachers, and nonprofit professionals and has taught children in hundreds of classrooms and organizations. Wendy speaks internationally on the topic of children’s well-being, is a contributor to Mindful Magazine online, and is a college lecturer on mindfulness for children.S he is a certified mindfulness teacher, is trained in self-compassion for children and adults, trauma-informed teaching, and is a certified parent educator and yoga instructor.
