The May meeting of Reading Glasses, SPL's book group for adults in their 20s and 30s, will be on Thursday, May 23rd in a hybrid format. We will meet in the Learning Lab on the 2nd Floor, and well as on Google Meet.

We'll be discussing "The Mayor of Maxwell Street" by Avery Cunningham.

Nelly Sawyer is the daughter of the “wealthiest Negro in America,” whose affluence catapulted his family to the heights of Black society. After the unexpected death of her only brother, Nelly becomes the premier debutante overnight. But Nelly has aspirations beyond society influence and marriage. For the past year, she has worked undercover as an investigative journalist, sharing the achievements and tribulations of everyday Black people living in the shadow of Jim Crow.
